Digital
Acoustics Corporation introduces
TextSpeak™ text-to-speech
modules;
first products that generate speech directly
from
RS-232, IRDA, X10 and PS-2 inputs
priced below $100.
WESTPORT, CT - APRIL 30, 2003 - Digital
Acoustics Corporation, developers of award winning, patented vDot®
technology, has introduced an embedded version of their TextSpeak™
text-to-speech technology. The TTS-03 module incorporates the
company's latest RISC technology to provide an ASCII Text-
to-Voice solution, in just 2 square inches. Speech is clear, crisp
and intelligible.
TextSpeak modules are pre-programmed to speak in
word, sentence or spelling mode, based on user-invoked
control codes. Speed and volume
of speech are also digitally controlled. Streaming
text is managed by integrated serial flow control.
As an added feature,
the TTS-03 accepts a standard PS2 keyboard signal to provide
speech directly from manually typed text. Applications for
security, home control, wireless information reporting, telephony
and aids for the disabled are easily supported.
The TextSpeak Design Tool, priced at $200,
includes a single module and motherboard with connectors for a
complete 'plug and play' test and development set.
The company has also incorporated TextSpeak technology into a
self-contained 'talking speaker.' The TTS-03-SPL model houses a
speaker, power supply, volume control and serial connector for an
all-in-one RS232-to-Voice product.
"These new products provide
alternatives to 20 year old solutions in the special needs market
using the same sciences we use in the general consumer
markets," states Michael Bernard, Director of Marketing at Digital
Acoustics. "By using new DSP and RISC integration, we can
provide affordable products for text-to-speech that can be both
portable, easy to design-in and uncomplicated to use,"
added Bernard.
